Marmaduke Dove

Marmaduke Dove was once a member of Union Lodge No. 6, but later transferred his membership to Naval Lodge No. 4. A Navy veteran who fought in the Battle of Tripoli in the First Barbary War, he held the rank of sailing master and was stationed for many years at the Washington Navy Yard. He served as the Master of Naval Lodge No. 4 for 13 non-consecutive years between 1819 and 1841, and also served as junior grand warden, senior grand warden, and deputy grand master. Dove served as Grand Master of the Grand Lodge of the District of Columbia in 1839.
