Peter P. Pitchlynn [Hatchootucknee] was a delegate, military leader, and principal chief of the Choctaw Nation of Oklahoma from 1864 to 1866. In 1865, he negotiated the surrender of the Choctaw Confederate Military Forces, and the following year he negotiated the treaty of peace between the Tribe and the U.S. From 1853 to 1861, and again from 1865 until his death in 1881, he was the tribal commissioner for land claims against the U.S. government. A faithful Freemason, he received his degrees with General Sam Houston. Pitchlynn was a member of the Washington Commandery, Knights Templar, and a charter member of the local Scottish Rite bodies.
